National Mathematics Day – Grades 6 and 7

A Math Project was organized to celebrate ‘National Mathematics’ Day on December 22nd that also marks the birth anniversary of the famous mathematician Srinivasan Ramanujan.

Various activities such as ‘Escape the Math battle’, ‘Mathopoly‘, ‘Çlimbing the math pyramid’ and ‘Building the 3D city’ were organized by the students of grades 6 and 7.

Students also integrated the concepts learned in Math with IT skills by the medium of a Presentation based on Statistical data to evaluate the usage of most preferred social media applications among different age groups.

The students of Grades 9 and 10 celebrated National Mathematics Day by learning concepts of calculating distance, area, and volume through various experimental activities that included tyre rotations, measuring containers, plastic pipes, and rate calculation using a timer. The investigation was followed by a calculation based on formulas to reach a conclusion with authenticated results.

Students of Grade 8 celebrated National Mathematics Day by learning about the ancient Indian Techniques of constructing different 2D shapes using the technique known as “Sulbha sutra” where the thread is used for analyzing different points of a 2D structure. The session was followed by students implementing a Thread technique and investigating the value of “Pi”, the constant of Math that is used for calculating Circle area and Perimeter.

National Mathematics Day marks the birth anniversary of the mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan. This day is celebrated every year on 22nd December across the nation to recognise and celebrate the works of Srinivasa Ramanujan. At MBIS the students were given a brief outline of Srinivasa Ramanujan’s work by the teacher and then had a fun-filled Math period. The students from Grades 2 & 3 enjoyed playing online games on Quizzes and Kahoot, Grade 4 & 5 had a challenging Math quiz and Grade 1 an interesting Math game with numbers. The joy of doing Math without paper and pencil was seen on the little one’s faces.
