Primary School Programme

“THE ONLY PERSON WHO IS EDUCATED IS THE ONE WHO HAS LEARNED HOW TO LEARN …AND CHANGE.”

– Carl Rogers

MBIS, follows the Cambridge Primary Programme (CPP) and encompasses Grades 1 to 5. At MBIS, which is an Mainadevi Bajaj International School follows the Cambridge Primary Programme (CPP) and encompasses Grades 1 to 5. We believe that being able to talk, read, and write literature along with a solid understanding of functional mathematics in the primary section is essential. Our desire for Academics+ in the primary section includes high expectations of both the appreciation and achievement in art, music, drama and sport. The integration of assessment with teaching and learning in literacy and numeracy, in particular, is well developed by the teachers of MBIS.

The students’ learning experience is well-targeted, suitably challenging, and achievable that provides all the children with a sense of accomplishment that they require at a young age. The international primary school has a dynamic environment, bringing together students from different backgrounds with various abilities while opening up numerous opportunities for them all. Our faculty here in this international primary school plans the implementation of creative and innovative teaching strategies in order to meet the students’ individual needs and use various approaches to inspire the classroom. The CPP curriculum framework fosters the development of knowledge, skills, and conceptual understanding through inquiry into 6 trans-disciplinary themes.

Transdisciplinary skills are developed across all areas of the curriculum, ensuring our students are equipped to face the demands of an ever-changing and challenging world: Language (where English is the language of instruction and French and Marathi is an additional language), Hindi, Mathematics, AOI, Science, Physical Education, Dance, Music, and Drama.

THE CAMBRIDGE LEARNER ATTRIBUTES

The Cambridge Primary Years Learners attributes encourage students to be:

  • Confident
  • Responsible
  • Reflective
  • Innovative
  • Engaged

Our faculty ensures this by encouraging students to have mixed abilities and to work together by promoting small group or whole class activities. The students develop self-confidence through verbally expressing their ideas and responding to others which also helps in enhancing their communication and critical thinking skills, which are vital throughout life.

Solving mathematical puzzles, conducting scientific experiments and acting out short drama sketches during culminations are just a few examples of how learning is incorporated into classroom lessons.

At MBIS, an international primary school in Mumbai, our students appear for the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint which is designed to help students learn by providing comprehensive feedback on their strengths and weaknesses in key curriculum areas like English, Mathematics, and Science. They are marked by Cambridge assessors and provide us with an international benchmark for learner performance. Each MBIS learner of Grade 5 shall receive a statement of achievement and a diagnostic feedback report.

PRIMARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM

At MBIS, we foster the development of knowledge, skills, and conceptual understanding through inquiry-based learning in the primary section.

We follow the Cambridge Primary Programme (CPP) that encompasses Grades 1 to 5. Transdisciplinary skills are developed across all areas of the curriculum, ensuring our students are equipped to face the demands of an ever-changing and challenging world.

TEACHING AND LEARNING APPROACH

Our faculty devises thought-provoking, creative and innovative teaching strategies and uses various approaches like research-based, inquiry-based, experiential learning, discussions, brainstorming sessions, and also integrating technology into the classroom.

INQUIRY-BASED INSTRUCTION

Following are the pointers that make the base of our inquiry-based learning:

  • Our faculty devises a thought-provoking line of inquiry for every unit
  • These lines of inquiry inspire students to think for themselves
  • Students learn to frame relevant questions
  • All of this leads to appropriate research and develops problem-solving skills in children
  • The outcome is a deeper understanding of the world around us
  • The inquiry culminates in students being able to articulate their understanding during formative assessments as well as during Inquiry Fairs.

TECHNOLOGY IN OUR CLASSROOMS

At MBIS, we have WI-FI enabled campus, interactive boards and iPads to enrich the teaching and learning at school. Technology at our school is used as a learning tool which makes learning more fun-filled.

AT MBIS, TOGETHER WITH PARENTS AND TEACHERS, OUR CLASSROOMS ARE HAPPY PLACES.
